Independent director ยท Advisory board
I'm a global treasurer with 20+ years across treasury, finance operations and risk management in fintech, crypto and cross-border payments. Most recently I led global treasury operations at Kraken/Payward ahead of its IPO, across fiat and digital assets. Before that I ran treasury and finance operations at Remitly through its scale from $500M to $1B in revenue, and served as a director of its FCA-regulated UK entity. Earlier I led enterprise risk for Meta FinTech, ran consumer payments risk at Amazon, and was a VP at J.P. Morgan.
Where I fit
Most early-stage boards have investors and founders, and nobody who has run treasury, controls or risk inside a regulated financial company. These are the three situations where that gap costs the most.
IPO readiness, audit remediation, and a clean SOX record after clearing every prior finding.
Fiat and stablecoin liquidity, FX, custody, and bank concentration. I moved Remitly's operating payments off SVB in March 2023.
License applications, exams, safeguarding, and the risk program behind a bank charter application.
How it works
The shape of a seat is set with the founders and the lead investor before anything is signed.
Seed through growth-stage companies in fintech, payments, lending, cross-border and digital assets.
Scaled to the stage the company is at and the areas I'm brought in for, so it ranges with the situation: lighter for a steady advisory seat, heavier through a financing, an audit or a licensing push.
I prefer equity because it keeps me aligned with the founders and keeps cash in the business. Cash and alternative structures are open for discussion.
